Economic benefits
A project of this nature will have major direct and indirect benefits for the local area. At peak, there will be up to 1,500 workers onsite during the construction phase with some 70 highly-skilled long-term jobs created once complete.
Further spin-off to the region includes:

Community benefits
There will be funding available for numerous additional activities and programmes. Many rural Irish communities have benefitted hugely from the development of renewable energy infrastructure in their area. A Community Benefit Fund (CBF) will be established. The developer wants to work with the local community to decide how best this fund can be structured to make the most meaningful impact. NZE believes the following initiatives could provide a good starting point for discussions:
Potential additional community benefits
Grants for third-level education
Greener homes scheme
Energy efficiency grants for public buildings
Environmental & biodiversity awareness programs
Local enterprise support
Schools & educational outreach
Personnel with the following skills will be required during the construction phase:
Civil and structural engineers, electrical and power engineers, geotechnical experts, transport and traffic engineers as well as specialist consultants on sound, gas storage and related sectors
An electrical network has to be installed underground to transport the power generated to the substation which will require electrical contractors and various experts
Surveyors, formwork and shuttering crew, concrete providers as well as steel suppliers and fixers will be part of the process of putting foundations in place
Haulage companies, crane drivers, site foremen and ground/support staff will be required to for transport and logistics
Road builders, quarry contractors, digger drivers and lorry drivers to develop site access and create roadways
Logistics, travel, lodging and material supply will generate significant additional local revenue for the five to seven year construction period meaning a spin-off for local shops, accommodation providers, garages, construction firms, suppliers, plant-hire, haulage and a wide array of other businesses
Propelling Ireland to 100% energy independence
We believe that all aspects of the Community Benefit Fund should be for the good of the local area.
